Gambling regulation in Telangana

Telangana operates one of India's strictest regimes: the Telangana Gaming Act, 1974, as amended in 2017, prohibits gaming for stakes including online play, and pointedly removes the skill-game defence for wagered play. There are no casinos and no licensed betting. Across every state and union territory, online money games are prohibited nationwide by the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, in force since 1 May 2026 and enforced by the Online Gaming Authority of India.

Online money games are prohibited across India under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, in force since 1 May 2026 — regardless of any historical state-level permissions. The notes above concern land-based and state-specific rules.

Land-based casinos in Telangana

State law prohibits casino gambling here, and no licensed land-based casinos operate. We therefore list no venues for this state.

Regional gaming preferences

Hyderabad is a major tech metro whose gaming culture flows into video games and e-sports rather than wagering — the 2017 amendments pushed real-money formats firmly out.

Popular sports & traditional games

Cricket dominates (Sunrisers Hyderabad); badminton has a genuine base thanks to the Hyderabad academies (P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal).

Payment infrastructure

A sophisticated UPI-first payments market; the 2017 amendments made processing payments for prohibited gaming an enforcement target.
